02/12/2004 Entry: "Back to Blogging"

I'm back from my vacation from blogging. Within that time, I got married, went to Australia, New Zealand and Manila, and now I'm back in San Francisco! So where is the patisserie? It's still on paper, unfortunately. I'm trying to focus on the business plan, attending some business and accounting classes on the side. It's difficult to focus when you're also adjusting to married life, trying to buy a house in crazy San Francisco, and trying to cook, bake, and test recipes. There is also cleaning, washing dishes, laundry -- aaaah!

We put a bid on a house yesterday, our first bid ever. Of course we lost it. We're in San Francisco! I expect to lose 15 before winning one. Hopefully that will be the perfect one for us.

I'm working on a cake for a friend's birthday party this weekend. It's a chocolate mascarpone cake with strawberries. The chocolate decorations are driving me crazy! Why didn't I learn that in Paris??? I'm slowly getting the feel for it. I had to test the recipe so I made it yesterday and invited Jane and Mark over to taste. Here it is:

Hi Karine,
I am here in London. I am attending the Le Cordon Bleu here and I was looking for some pictures for my Superior Patisserie Final Assessment and I stubbled on to your site. I have enjoyed looking at your pictures. They have given me the inspiration that I needed to get through this project. I was looking for pictures of plated desserts and they are hard to come by. Good luck with your plans to open up a pastry shop. Many of the students here have the same plans. As for me, I'm not sure what I will do. I will be moving back to my house in Tucson, AZ in July and I guess I will make more definite plans then.
