Mom and I have been worried that my reception venue is too small for the number of people I'm inviting. Unfortunately, our lack of foresight does not come without a price. I will have to lose my deposit if I change my venue, and as painful as it is, I'd rather lose the money than worry every single day till the wedding. I've been spending the past few days with my cousins. Garry is out of town on business and won't be back till Friday. (I can't wait!) My cousin Rheena and I will check out the Stanford Barn today, an alternate venue for the reception. (yes, it's a barn) A family friend gave my cousins a whole shopping bag full of green apples, so Rheena and I spent the night making the classic Tarte Tatin. We decided to use Gale Gand's recipe, but I think it's poorly written and lacking in detail. We almost screwed up the tart following this recipe, and I was telling Rheena how funny it would be if two pastry chefs (she's a pastry chef too) would bungle up an easy classic such as this one. Anyway, after an hour the whole house started smelling like apples and caramel... mmm. Although the apples were a bit dark, they tasted great. I've started reading Harvey Penick's "The Game of a Lifetime". No, it's not about food, it's about golf! For years I've seen my brothers read his books, but I couldn't understand why. This book makes you love the game! After reading a few chapters, I'm ready to hit the range and practice -- which is what I'm doing now. Bye!
