Last week, Alli and Scott invited Garry and me to spend two days in a wonderful Sonoma ranch. Since it was their third anniversary, we cooked up a feast of Braised Lamb Shanks, Steamed Polenta with Mascarpone Cheese, Sauteed Spinach with Garlic and Pear Frangipane Tart. They provided wine and champagne (ok, sparkling wine) from local vineyards.
The next day, we had a chance to go fishing in the lake -- I didn't think I would get anything, since I've never gotten anything in still waters. I went deep sea fishing with Garry in Berkeley once, and we caught about 10 rock cod, but we got so seasick that we never wanted to do that again. And so I was patiently sitting by the dock when I felt a big tug on my line, and I immediately called for HELP!
At the end of the line was a huge catfish trying to get away. Here I am with my big catch!
Garry had a traumatic experience "preparing" the fish for lunch; but eventually, we got it cleaned, filleted, and fried!
